Over the last 20 years, I’ve been part of numerous teams. Some good, some less so. As I moved into more senior and executive positions, it became clear to me that there were some consistent themes across teams that created unity, inspired action and led to better performance. In most cases, it had little to do with how much time people had been together, and a lot more with the way in which they interacted with each other.
Humanity at the core
As a starting point, each team demonstrated an ability and willingness to rely on each other, to stay united under pressure and to put the good of the group ahead of their personal interest. At the center of it all were human beings, with all their superpowers and flaws, that felt understood, supported and valued.
